THE STEADY MIND.

Strength isn't only in the muscles — there's a quieter kind: staying calm when something is uncomfortable and choosing your response instead of reacting. This week's ten minutes train exactly that, one itch at a time.

The Session · 10 minutes

Training steadiness, minute by minute

Read it through once, set a soft ten-minute timer, and let the structure carry you.

0–1 min

Arrive

Sit comfortably, feet on the floor, hands at rest. Decide, gently, that for ten minutes you'll stay roughly as you are.

"Nothing here needs fixing for ten minutes — including me."
1–3 min

Settle

A few longer exhales, then let the breath find its own pace. Feel the points where the body meets the chair — solid, held, going nowhere.

3–6 min

The itch experiment

Sooner or later something will call for action — an itch, an urge to shift, a hair on the cheek. This is the training moment: notice it, name it ("itching", "restless"), and wait three full breaths before deciding whether to move. Often it dissolves on its own; if not, move — slowly, on purpose, as a choice.

"There's a gap between feeling it and acting on it. I'm learning to live in that gap."
6–9 min

Steady through the waves

Rest attention on the breath and let everything else — sounds, sensations, thoughts — rise and pass like weather. You're not the weather; you're the one watching it cross the sky.

9–10 min

Close

One deeper breath. Open the eyes. Notice how it feels to have sat through small discomforts without being pushed around by them.

"The same gap exists in traffic, in meetings, in hard conversations. It's mine now."
Between Sessions

Five micro-pauses for real life

Thirty-second steadiness reps, hidden in ordinary days.

  1. The red-light stillness

Stopped in traffic: hands resting, shoulders down, perfectly still until green. The queue becomes the cushion.

  2. The one-more-breath reply

Before answering a message that irritated you: one full breath, then type. The reply is always better.

  3. The phone-free queue

One line, one wait, no phone. Just standing — noticing how loud the urge to reach for it is, and letting it pass.

  4. The slow sip

One drink today taken three sips slower than usual. Patience, practised in miniature.

  5. The cold-tap finish

End one hand-wash with a few seconds of cooler water, staying relaxed through the surprise. Tiny discomfort, steady breath.

The Weekly Plan

Seven days, one gentle rhythm

Four full sessions this week, micro-pauses every day. Steadiness compounds exactly like strength — small loads, repeated kindly.

MON10-min session

WED10-min session

If sitting still feels like a battle

Shrink the experiment: steadiness for three breaths, then move freely, then three more. You're not failing the practice — you're doing sets and reps of it.
